Class 4

Croeso i'r Dosbarth 4 (Blwyddyn 2)!

Welcome to Class 4 (Year 2)!

Teacher: Miss Whately

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Walker

We are starting a busy and challenging time in Dosbarth 4!

The children are motivated and eager to learn!

Literacy

During our literacy lessons we will be focusing on reading comprehensions. The children will be encouraged to read various fiction and non-fiction texts in a variety of styles. They will be answering a range of questions about each text in which they will apply a range of skills such as decoding unknown words; scanning the text for key words; stretching and blending sounds; using picture and context clues.

All in preparation for the literacy test they will sit in May.

We will also be putting our imaginations to good use to enhance our creative writing skills! Developing our use of adjectives; onomatopoeias; similes; alliteration and metaphors!

Mathematics

In our maths lessons we are going to be developing our knowledge and skills in Time and Measurement; Finding the difference; Fractions; Inverse and Worded Problems.

These are all areas which we found needing a bit more attention in preparation for the Mathematics National Test in May.

We will also be completing a variety of Reasoning papers which is, again, preparation for the National Test.

Of course we will still be continuing with Big Maths every week. Big Maths is an essential element of our Mathematical knowledge, understanding and application. Please continue to practice with your child regularly the Learn its and Times Tables to enhance their quick mental recall. This will be invaluable in the National Tests.

Come and See

Our new Come and See topic is Meals.

We will be thinking about special meals; the importance of attending Mass and Jesus' special meal The Last Supper.

Please continue to support our school by attending Mass.

Currently every Friday there is a Lentern Mass held in school at 8.30 am.

Diolch yn fawr.

Context

Our topic this term is Mini-Beasts.

We will be doing a variety of activities throughout this term that will contribute to the development of our knowledge and understanding in this exciting, creepy crawly topic!

A visit to Cosmeston Lakes is planned for a day of Pond Dipping; Nature trails and creepy crawly investigating!
