Welcome to Class 8, Year 5/6

Class Teacher: Mrs A. Thomas

A warm welcome to our class page where you can find out about our work and events.

The years in upper Key Stage 2 are very important in developing independence, confidence and self esteem. Punctuality and excellent attendance are essential if children are to reach their full potential so if possible, please keep appointments in school time to a minimum.

As always, please arrange to see me if you have any concerns about your child.

Mrs Thomas

Homework

Your child will be issued with the following:

  • A spelling list
  • A reading record card and own choice/scheme library book
  • A ruled exercise book (English/ miscellaneous)
  • A squared exercise book (Mathematics)

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help to develop independence by encouraging your child to look after this equipment and return it as required.

Homework will USUALLY be issued on Fridays and return will be expected on Wednesday morning.

Maths tests USUALLY take place on Thursdays whilst Spelling tests USUALLy take place on Fridays.

PE Kit

PE sessions are on Mondays.

Games sessions are on Fridays. Appropriate clothing is essential: t-shirt (not vests), warm sweatshirt, jogging bottoms or leggings and trainers. A water proof jacket is also needed. Children are welcome to bring a plastic bottle of  water.

Curriculum

Our current RE topic is 'Loving'.

Our Imaginative Learning Project (ILP) is 'Bend and Flow'. We will be basing the majority of our Geography, History, Art Design Technology, Science and ICT in this context.

In Welsh, we will continue to focus on developing dialogues using a range of sentence patterns and tenses in the context of arranging events.

Classroom Displays

It has been a busy year. Here are just a few photos of some of our lessons and class work. As well as our English, maths and RE topics we have had the chance to interview a journalist, carry out challenging science investigations and create artwork which is now part of an exhibition in Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. See the gallery page for more information on the exhibition.

Plastic bottle inventions: Pupils were asked to come up with a creative way to reuse a plastic bottle. Here are some of their imaginative ideas.

A special afternoon tea was served for the Year 6 Leavers to mark their final week in St Mary's.
